Body Exfoliation

Body ExfoliationExfoliation happens when the topmost layer of the skin becomes dried and is shed off. This can happen naturally but at the same time a person can also use some products to facilitate exfoliation. There is an immediate positive effect on the skin. During the process, the pores are unclogged and a smoother, younger skin is uncovered.

Body exfoliation can be done in several ways. It is possible to do it manually or mechanically like when a viscous towel, loofah, salt crystals, pumice and other abrasives are used. Enzymes, as well as some chemicals, can also be used to exfoliate.

In manual exfoliation the abrasive is scrubbed or moved against the skin’s surface to scrape off the dead skin cells. The smaller the granules of the abrasives or exfoliant, the better and gentler it is on the skin.

Enzymes and chemical exfoliation
make use of fruit enzymes such as papaine and bromelin, Alpha Hydroxy Acids or AHA and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA) as the exfoliating ingredients. These dissolve the dead skin cells making it possible to uncover the next layer. The use of enzymes and chemicals are usually done on people whose skin cannot tolerate the pressure and the abrasive qualities of other exfoliants.

Body exfoliation has become a feature in wellness centers and spas since it also enhances blood circulation, especially if combined with other form of therapies like massage. Other natural exfoliating products are combined to create a much more effective and beneficial body exfoliation. Sea salts or sugar can be used to scrub the body, at the same time employing some massage strokes. In most cases, the body is moisturized after the exfoliation.

The body exfoliation experience promotes relaxation and eases stress while cleansing the skin making it younger looking. It energizes and renews not only the skin but the person as a whole.
